Sergey Gaplikov was born on April 29, 1970 in Frunze in a family of Cossacks. His childhood was led in Siberia and the Far East. The parents were the builders of Baikal-Amur Mainline (BAM).
1988-1989: military service in air-borne troops, reconnaissance company of the independent assault brigade. He retired as the guard master-sergeant.
S. Gaplikov has gone into higher education. He graduated from the Bauman Moscow State Technical University with a degree in gas-dynamic impulse devices (1996), Moscow State Institute for International Relations as expert lawyer with a degree in public construction and management, the All-Russian Academy of Foreign Trade with a degree in world economy (2000).
In 1995, being a student, he began his career as design engineer in Moscow Research and Development Machine Building Institute.
1996-2000: appointments in the prefecture of the Eastern Administrative District of Moscow.
2000-2004: appointment in the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the Russian Federation.
2004-2010: the Chairman of the Government of the Chuvashi Republic by the invitation of N. Fyodorov, the Head of the Chuvashi Republic.
2010-2011: the Deputy Chief of the RF Government Office.
In 2011 S. Gaplikov became the appointed President of Olimpstroy State Corporation. The appointment decree was signed by V. Putin, the Chairman of the RF Government. S Gaplikov held the appointment until the accomplishment of the Olympic facilities’ construction and the end of the Olympic Games.
In 2014 he was awarded the third-class Order of Honour for the Motherland for the input in the arrangement and holding the XXII Winter Olympic Games and XI Para-Olympic Games in Sochi and the provision of Russian National Olympic Team successful performance.
S. Gaplikov is married, with a daughter and a son. In 2015 he celebrated the silver wedding.
On September 30, 2015 S. Gaplikov was appointed the Acting Head of the Republic of Komi by the decree of V. Putin, the RF President.
