The Head of the Republic of Komi Vyacheslav Gaizer met the UNDP Plenipotentiary Representative in the Russian Federation Mr. Frode Mauring
The Sides discussed implementation of the joint project aimed at developing of specially protected natural areas in the region and preservation of biodiversity in the Pechora River Headwaters. The Republic of Komi is a partner of this project.
«Our joint project on Strengthening Protected Area System of the Komi Republic to Conserve Virgin Forest Biodiversity in the Pechora River Headwaters Region is being successfully implemented due to our collaboration and efficient work of your organization. I know the project well as I was a working group leader for its business planning. I know that the budget was increased nearly twice because the project won German Government competition», said Vyacheslav Gaizer.
In his turn Mr.Frode Mauring underlined that the Republic of Komi was very important for the whole planet, many forests are grown on the region territory and that is why the economical and environmental issues had to be interconnected with each other. According to Mr.Mauring «The Government of the Republic of Komi has demonstrated a political will to restructure the system of specially protected natural areas in the republic for efficient preservation of globally important biodiversity».
